Topology optimization is an increasingly popular generative design method for plastic and composite products and Additive Manufacturing. Typical topology optimized results show intermediate densities and jagged boundaries. Nowadays, software packages use arbitrary smoothing algorithms to overcome these unwanted features. This image based post-processing step is a bottle-neck for designers and the optimality of the design is usually lost. In this presentation an automated and performance based post-processing method is shown, connecting topology optimization to other CAD tools.
